Dominion North Carolina Power is committed to providing safe and reliable power to customers, and this sometimes requires the construction of additional electric facilities.
An existing 115kV transmission line, located along the sound from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head, is forecasted to reach maximum capacity by 2012. Increasing electrical demand from the local area has already created loads on the existing line that exceed the guidelines for this type of transmission line.
A second transmission line is needed to provide the necessary reliability to support continued economic growth on the Outer Banks and provide an alternate source of electrical service to the area.
The new line will extend for 7.3-miles within NCDOT right
of way along the east side of the Rt. 158 Bypass. The second 115kV line will
alleviate projected overloading of the existing line, provide an additional
transmission source for the area and improve reliability - meaning fewer outages
or service interruptions for residents and businesses on the Outer Banks.
Project Update - 9/18/07
The North Carolina Utilities Commission
issued an Order on September 18, 2007 that directs Dominion to proceed with
its plans to complete this second 115kV line from Kitty Hawk Substation along
the east side of the Rt. 158 Bypass. (>> View
