Kincaid Power Station, located in Kincaid, Ill. near Springfield, produces enough electricity to power about 290,000 homes, using coal as its fuel. Kincaid consists of two 579-megawatt coal-fired generating units. Unit 1 began commercial service 1967 and Unit 2 in 1968.
To minimize emissions of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide, Kincaid is equipped with electrostatic precipitators to trap fly ash and selective catalytic reduction systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Kincaid receives its cooling water from Lake Sangchris.
Generating capacity is sold to ComEd through a power purchase agreement.
