Building a new home?
Enjoy a more comfortable, energy-efficient home and get a 5% discount on your energy charges.*
An Energy Saver Home Plus has:
- increased levels of insulation in ceilings, walls and floors,
- high efficiency heat pump(s) installed according to Energy Saver Home Plus guidelines,
- sealed ductwork to ensure maximum energy efficiency, air quality and comfort,
- high efficiency electric water heating,
- sealants around windows, doors, plumbing, electric, cable and phone penetrations in framing and walls, and other areas where air leakage may occur, and
- insulated metal doors or solid wood doors with storm doors to reduce air infiltration.
Dominion North Carolina Power Rate Schedules 1 (Basic Residential Rate), 1DF (Duel fuel), 1P (TOU) and 1T (Energy TOU) are affected by the Energy Saver Home Plus program. View details on these rates.
Building Standards
An Energy Saver Home must meet the following requirements:
Insulation
- R-15 insulation in walls
- R-19 insulation in floors
- R-30 insulation in ceiling
HVAC Systems
Heat pump systems must have efficiency ratings of:
- 12 SEER or higher
- 7.8 HSPF or higher
SEER=Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating
HSPF= Heating Seasonal Performance Factor
Dual fuel systems:
- Must use electricity as the primary heating source
- Can use any heating source -- such as oil, propane or wood -- for supplemental heat except natural gas
- Must meet required energy efficiency ratings
Appliances
- All appliances must be electric
