Stay Safe This Semester

Stay safeIt’s back-to-school time. Along with new clothes and books come gadgets that require electricity, such as computers.

Watch how your children use electricity. Teach them to value and respect this critical resource by practicing electrical safety.

Electric wires are everywhere. They run around, through and over our homes. You can help prevent accidents with these common-sense tips:

  1. Don’t overload outlets. If your television picture flickers when appliances are turned on or if your circuit breakers trip frequently, have your wiring checked.
  2. Don’t carry electrical hand tools or small appliances by their cords.
  3. Run cords along walls, not under carpets or furniture. The cords could overheat and cause a fire. Replace worn or frayed cords immediately.
  4. Please teach your children not to poke things into electrical outlets, toasters or any other appliance.
  5. Make sure you use all three prongs of your electric plugs, and don’t force the plugs into outlets.
