Dominion volunteers worked in October to install a universally accessible foot trail and boardwalk in Nags Head Woods Preserve.
As part of Dominion's Putting Our Energy to Work for the Environment volunteer campaign, the volunteers cleared debris and helped cut a six-foot wide swath through the woods for the footpath.
When finished, the nearly one-mile long circuit would begin and end at the Nags Head Woods Visitors Center parking area.
It will include an observation platform for viewing and for catch-and-release fishing in the two-acre pond. The entire trail will be wheelchair-accessible.
A $200,000 project, the trail was given a boost this year with a $100,000 grant from the Dominion Foundation. The project also has received assistance from the Town of Kill Devil Hills.
